According to Cheyenne City code, trees need to trimmed up to a 14-foot height clearance over streets and alleys, and an 8-foot height clearance over sidewalks. In addition to height, branches and bushes should not impede visibility at intersections, causing higher probability of collisions (See Title 12, Chapter 12.16.040 - Responsibility of property owners).
Keeping branches trimmed back appropriately also prevents disappearing walkways, closed off driveways, scratched vehicles, and even scratched people. When trimming back branches, whether in the yard or otherwise, be careful to not leave sharp stubs at a height that might cause harm to someone. Oftentimes a stub left at head-height will cause nasty scratches or can even cause loss of sight.
